General Director of the PDI Dr. Aleksandr Bezgodov

At a recent Russian Academy of Sciences international conference dedicated to the World Environment Day, the Head of the Planetary Development Institute, Professor Aleksandr Bezgodov presented the latest research findings on the current globalization crisis, which he viewed as a starting point of a new planetary design:

... From our point of view, there is a wide range of factors that caused this situation. Both macro and micro factors. Both fundamental and subjective ones. Today, we should rethink the current globalization paradigm to see how we could take it to a different level under what we call the Planetary Development Project. In short, this project implies a balance of competition and cooperation in recognizing the priority of the right to life and safe environment. After all, we all have only one planet and one biosphere. Our civilization is entering a historical phase of development, in which the center stage should not be occupied by states, military blocks or the right of might to suppress minorities. Instead, protection of the right to live is increasingly becoming the epicenter of the global agreements of all with all. At the micro level, it is the right to have access to clean water, air, soil, in general, to natural resources, and at the macro level the right to be protected from war, violence and repression. The logic of globalization, which we call the Planetary Project, should be tuned to this vision. This logic must find its implementation in the financial sphere, manufacturing, distribution and consumption. Global institutions must be updated: from security institutions to governance institutions to digital communications. According to modern philosophers and sociologists, the new global world emerging in the 21st century is different from previous stages of public development by the compression of time and space. The global world today is a reality; it would be absurd to deny it. Improving and transforming it is an urgent need. Specialists of our institute are working on this. We are developing models of symmetric development of local economies and the foundations of international economy and ways of introducing rent for the use of planetary resources into international financial and economic relations...
