Peru's National Potato Day

Today, the potato is one of the most customary and widespread products and can be found in almost all cuisines of the world. Although the history of its appearance, cultivation and usage differs among diverse nations, the attitude developed to potato is mostly the same – potatoes relished and became a mass product around the world. But in Peru, this vegetable is not just beloved – here it is treated as something special. Potato is considered as country's cultural heritage and national pride of the Peruvians. It is well known that South America is a fatherland of the potato, and the Peruvians claim that potato appeared in their country about 8000 years ago. Besides there are more than 3 thousand species of this tuber in Peru, and it is the only place where the largest number of wild potato species can be found.
