Shedding Light on the Black Hole

The theory of black holes has received hard evidence. The Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration team presented a historic snapshot of the event horizon - the outer shell of the ‘light eater’. It has taken several years for more than two hundred scientists from 60 research centers to create a global network of observatories located on different continents of our planet - from Antarctica to Greenland. Please admire: a beauty from the galaxy M87. The distance between us is 500 quintillion kilometers. In time units, this is about 50 million light years.

The project has already cost $28 million. Having spent this money, physicists have found yet another proof of Einstein’s general relative rightness and the wrongness of several alternative ideas. Scientists managed to determine the rotation parameters of the observed object (clockwise, the axis is directed to the Earth ...), its diameter (100 billion km), mass (6.5 billion suns) and the dynamics of photon radiation, which, as we know, should be close to zero. Due to the force of gravity, the light in the object is bent, the space is deformed, and time is distorted. However, astronomers had already known this even before the photos were taken. The scientific community will need much more time to appreciate the real scale of the results obtained by the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration team. Undoubtedly, mankind has come close to uncovering the main secrets of the origins of the worlds. The point of no return, the very place where time and space as we know them end, is no longer just a set of mathematical formulas - it has acquired a photographic image.
