World Aviation and Astronautics Day

The day celebrates the triumph of science for all those who work in the space industry. The day has also been known as the International Day of Human Space Flight since 2011. On 12 April 1961, Senior Lieutenant of the Soviet Air Force Yuri Gagarin piloted Vostok into an orbital flight around the Earth, which ushered in the era of manned space travel.
