UN Arabic Language Day

UN Arabic Language Day was proclaimed on 18 December 2010 to commemorate the UN General Assembly’s 1973 decision to make the Arabic language an official and working language of the organisation. Currently, nearly 300 million people use the Arabic language in its multiple variations worldwide. For over 240 million people it is their mother tongue, and 50 million use it as a second language. The Quran classical Arabic is used by Muslims all over the world (its number exceeds 1,5 billion people).
