Sami National Day

February 2020

The Saa?mi as the Sami call themselves, are an ethnic group spread between different countries: 40,000 people living in Norway, 18,000 in Sweden, 4,000 in Finland and 2,000 in Russia. Sami believe in spirits, masters of lakes and rivers. They worship sacred stones, rocks and boulders, which help trade and honour ancestors. Up until the 20th century, every family kept gods, stones wrapped in cloth.
