International Tiger Day

29
July 2020
International Tiger Day is held annually on July 29 to give worldwide attention to the reservation of tigers. It is both an awareness day as a celebration. It was founded at the St Petersburg Tiger Summit in 2010. Thirteen states, which participated in the forum, developed and passed a programme of restoring tiger populations to the cover the period of 2010-2022. It set the benchmark of doubling the current number of tigers. Unfortunately, there are under five thousand tigers left in the wild; this number is constantly decreasing. Over the last decade, this number has fallen 25 fold. Today, wild tigers are close to extinction. In most cases, they fall prey to poaching. The goal of Tiger Day is to promote the protection and expansion of the wild tigers habitats and to gain support through awareness for tiger conservation.
