First blood transfusion operation

James Blundell (1790 – 1878), the English physician who was one of the founders of hemotransfusion and children’s resuscitation science, performed the first human-to-human blood transfusion on 15 September 1818. Understanding the importance of the procedure Blundell developed strict rules for blood taking and transfusion, and invented the first useful tools for the operation. He published results of his work.
